SDG8: Decent work and economic growth
General objective: Promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all.
What is Royal FloraHolland doing to achieve this goal?
We are working on the following themes:
- A future-proof digital and physical infrastructure
- Decent work and sustainable employability and
- A safe and healthy working environment from a physical and social perspective
1. Quality Future Proof digital and physical infrastructure
Digitization, internationalization, quality, sustainability and reliability of information are important topics in the marketplace. Supply and demand converge in our international marketplace, which aims for optimal pricing with the lowest possible transaction costs. This is about making the floriculture industry more accessible, less complex, more reliable and more transparent. Quality Future Proof contributes to the realization of this by providing and displaying chain data, supply information, sustainability certificates and complaints/disputes.
Users of the marketplace must be able to trust the completeness and reliability of the market information provided. That is why Quality Future Proof focuses on the realization of greater transparency and reliable information in the marketplace. The objective is to allow growers to distinguish themselves and to give customers better insight when selecting and deciding to buy.
This increased transparency also applies to the policy to be developed with respect to crop protection use and support for growers facing pressing issues relating to cultivation and legislation. This is done in close cooperation with partners in the sector.
Cooperation within Royal FloraHolland is efficient and coordinated. Intensive cooperation with Floriday and sales channels ensures that improved and new functionalities are implemented in the correct order. We work with sector partners and we consult with members on relevant themes. Customers are involved in new concepts.
Quality Future Proof is an agile program that is also connected to Digital Green House, with the necessary changes and shifting priorities.
2. Decent work and sustainable employability
As a company, Royal FloraHolland pursues an active policy directed towards the sustainable employment of people and offers extensive development and career opportunities.
In the sector we work with the Floriculture Sustainability Initiative (FSI) and the iCSR (iMVO) covenant signed on 2 July 2019 by, among others, Royal FloraHolland on the complex subject of the 'living wage'. This allows workers at nurseries in Africa to make a proper living, too. We do this together with all growers, customers and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) involved.
3. A healthy and safe working environment from a physical and social perspective
As an employer, we are responsible for our people and we want them to leave work in good health and go home safely. That is why we have a safety program. The goal of this program is to pay structural attention to safety within Royal FloraHolland that is measurable as a structural reduction in the number of accidents leading to absenteeism.
